In the name of Allah, the creator of universe, who have
continually bless us as mankind and as the nations of South East Asian
Countries. Many scholars in the world have been paying attention to the
continuity of earth on which live today. From many summit meeting among the
United Nations members a concept of Sustainable
Development Goals (SDGs) were born. The so called Global Goals were officially
proclaimed by the United Nations on September 25, 2015. The concept itself was
born SDGs at the UN Conference Rio + 20 Sustainable Developments in 2012.
The SDGs himself born replace the MDGs (Millennium
Development Goals), which ends on SDGs born in 2015 with 17 goals, namely among
others: Removing poverty in all its forms wherever, Ending hunger,
achieve food security and improve nutrition, and promote sustainable
agriculture, Ensuring a healthy life and promote the welfare of all people in
all ages, Ensuring the quality of education that is inclusive and equitable and
promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all, Achieving gender equality
and empowering women and girls, Ensuring the availability and management of
water and sanitation for sustainable for all, Ensuring access to affordable
energy, reliable, sustainable and modern for all, Promoting sustainable
economic growth, and inclusive, promote industrialization of sustainable and
inclusive and develop innovation.
To response
that challenges, the Research Institute of Palembang University collaboated
with Malaysian Research & Innovation Society (MyRIS) and University of
Malaysia Perlis, Malaysia conduct an international conference on Working Toward
Sustainable Development with particular sub-themes/topics: (1) Green
technology, (2) Green agriculture, (3) Green economy and (4) Green energy. The
conference is held in Grand Zuri Hotel, Palembang, South Sumatra, Indonesia.
At this
conference, a number of research papers and research articles were submitted
from 5 countries i.e. Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Vietnam and Japan. The
authors are researchers, practitioners, policy makers, academics as well as
industrial professionals. The governor of South Sumatra is hoped to give
keynote speech on the sustainable development that has been taking place in
South Sumatra province. The ultimate aim of the conference is to deliver state-of-the-art analysis, inspiring visions
and innovative methods arising from research in a wide range of disciplines.
Through this activity, it isi expected that research articles in all aspects
related to sustainable developments can be documented, rapidly spread,
communicated and discussed throughout the countries. This is particularly true
since five foundations of SDG (people, planet, prosperity, peace, and
partnerships)are there to be tackled and handled seriously and continuously.
Thank
you for your participation and looking forward to having productive discussion
among participants.
Sincerely yours,
Prof. Supli Effendi Rahim, M.Sc, Ph.D
PREFACE
RECTOR OF UNIVERSITY OF PALEMBANG
Many Asian countries have suffered from the damage of their
environment in their effort to build their countries i.e. building
infrastructure, agriculture, settlement areas and other sectors. Developing a
country with so-called not environmental friendly is unavoidable as to meet the
need of the nation as a result of changing consumption pattern, including the
demographics, declining of agriculture productivity, degradation of natural
resources, rising input cots as well as cost for transportation of supply
chains. All of these require not only a firm regulation of sustainable
development and various trends anticipation and approaches from short to medium
even long-term efforts.
Together with MyRIS and UNIMAP, the University of Palembang
conduct a international conference with the sub-themes of Green Technology,
Green Agriculture, Green Ecvonomy and Green
Energy in working toward Sustainable Development on 7-8th
September 2016 at Grand Zuri Hotel, Palembang, South Sumatra, Indonesia. A
number of papers and keynote speeches are compiled and expected to be used as a
steeping stone for preparation of development strategies in Indonesia or other
Asian Countries resolving the issues of Sustainable Development.
My very sincere appreciations are due to the governor of
South Sumatra for his particular attention to this conference, to all
participants, invited speakers, reviewers, conference committee, lecturers and
staff of University Palembang for putting remarkable efforts and their
contribution to the organization of this conference. This is our first
international conference conducted to together with MyRIS and UNIMAP, thanks
God, running well. Finally, I just hope that the conference is able to inspire
and deliver benefits to all participants, in which together we are able to contribute
to develop our nations, our countries sustainably as well as our planet.
We look forward to working with you and getting to know you
in years ahead. Thank you.
Yours sincerely,
Zulkifli S. Mukti, SH, MH
Rector
PREFACE
MyRIS CHAIRMAN
As the chairman of Malaysian Research & Innovation
Society and on behalf of the University of Malaysia Perlis, I am very pleased
to support the University of Palembang, Palembang, South Sumatra, Indonesia in
organizing the International Conference on Working Toward Sustainable
Development. MyRIS and UNIMAP support to this event and many similar others in
Indonesia is a testament of our commitment to promote Indonesian universities
including University of Palembang to go international. My strong support is
definitely to this conference since the sub-topics are on green technology,
green agriculture, green economy and green energy.
Addressing
multi-problems faced when one wants to achieve the sustainable development
goals (SDGs) requires collaborative efforts among various stakeholders within a
country and across the region. The umbrella for such efforts has been in place
as the nations of South Asia Countries have long been in an strong association
in the region namely ASEAN (Association of South East Asia Nations) which is
based in Jakarta. We are thereafter called continuously to work together in
various fields including to guard the implementation of the concept of the
so-called sustainable development in every country of ours.
To face the
future, we in MyRIS and UNIMAP will continue to support any programs which
identifies areas for cooperation in research, publication, capacity building,
and knowledge management in sustainable
development especially in the the themes of Green technology, Green
Agriculture, Green Economy and Green Energy. I strongly believe that by working
synergy, we have seen how the modest contributions of our academic staffs and
students in the future can make big difference to the development in the SEA
countries from the view point of sustainable development.
In
congratulate the Conference Committee Prof. Dr. Supli Effendi Rahim for
organizing this WTSD conference which serves as a platform for knowledge
sharing on various research and development activities that contribute to the
better implementation of concept of sustainable development in our countries.
Finally, I also thank all our keynote speakers and delegates for their
participation in this event and hope to see all of you again in future
knowledge and experiences sharing events important to the development of the
SEA region.
